Descriptions of Customer Service Skills

Customer service reps have a tough job. They have to be good at a lot of different things.
But which skills matter most? And why do they matter so much?
Let’s take a look at some of the most important customer service skills.
1. Thoughtfulness – Customer service reps need to make their words count. Thought needs to be put into each word spoken to customers. You want to be thorough, but concise.
2. Helpfulness – There’s no “i” in customer service. Just kidding — there is. Even though there are a lot of individual aspects to customer service, it’s a team sport. The best customer service reps will go out of their way to help out other members of their team.
3. Thick Skin – Most of the time when customers call customer service, they aren’t just checking in to say, “Keep up the good work!” Usually, they have an issue with your product or service that is frustrating them. Sometimes, they will say mean things to you. You need to take it in stride — don’t let it rattle you.
